I have a 99 blazer, and I have noticed recently when I start it up, it will not turn over unless I pump a little more gas. It happens on and off. I feel like I am back in my old 81 Chevy truck with the quadjet carb and had to pump it before starting it. So what could be my problem on my blazer?

Also to better explain, it is like when you unplug the battery for a while and everything is zero'd out and you got to start it for the first time and have to pump the pedal some to get going, sort of like that.

Hmmmm...you should not have to "pump the gas" at all to start this vehicle, you should only have to turn the key. I would suggest you read the DIY article regarding fuel system/no start diagnoses.

when was the last time you replaced or even looked at your air filter??

I have a friend with an '05 dodge V8 and it was doing what you describe. The air filter was caked in black dust/gunk. Blowing it out with compressed air resolved the problem, so I replaced the filter.

Giving it gas opens the butterfly valve on the throttle body allowing enough air to reach the engine.

The air filter is new, matter of fact it is a new cold air intake.

Did you remember to connect the breather hose from the valve cover on the back of the intake?
