It seems to be that I have oil in my coolant reservoir and I know what you all are going to think is head gasket. But here's the thing it's only in the reservoir not in the radiator no coolant in the oil and it doesn't smell like it's burning in the exhaust oil pressure and everything is fine and it's running fine. Any ideas what could be causing this?

 

Head gaskets failures on the 4.3L are rare, unless the engine overheats, and you keep on driving it. The result is usually coolant, not oil, entering the combustion chambers producing serious white steam from the tail pipe. It's usually accompanied by over pressurizing the cooling system, and or engine misfires. The most common reason for oil to get in the coolant, is a leaky oil cooler. Oil is lighter than coolant so it "floats" on the coolant. The oil cooler is on the driver side, next to the upper radiator hose. The radiator cooling tubes are horizontal. When the thermostat opens, the coolant travels across to the passenger side. When the radiator cap vents, (top passenger side of the radiator) the oil is pushed into the reservoir first, then coolant. There's still a certain amount of oil in suspension with the coolant, but most of it gets pushed into the reservoir where it "floats" to the top, and stays there until you clean it out and repair the problem. It's either that, or somebody is dumping oil in the reservoir
