Default oil dashboard guage

heres a dumb question, i have a 99 blazer, and my oil guage reads fine and it is, i check the oil all the time. when i drive the truck for a while, say up to a half hour or longer and am moving it reads fine, but when i come to a stop or just slow right down the guage goes way down. not into the red but close. why is this, and what can i do. any advice would be helpful, i just dont want to mess up the engine or something. thanks

Default RE: oil dashboard guage

Oil pressure will drop when the engine warms up. That's normal because the oil gets thinner as it warms up. As long as it is in specs, you are OK. If it drops below specs when you stop, it could indicate a faulty oil pump, filter or bearings or a sticky pressure relief valve. BTW, gauges and oil pressure sensors can give faulty readings so before I pulled the engine and rebuilt it, I would test it with an external gauge or have them tested.
