This isn't a thread to debate the merits of synthetic oil vs. dyno ... I'm just wondering which way I should go with the first oil change on the 2001 LT 4DR 4WD I bought ~2 weeks ago.

No service records, 3-4 owners. 115,500 miles.

Is it going to hurt anything if I go synth, if it was dino up 'till now?

 

I always use full syn, I get great oil pressure, plus on an older vehicle, syn oil does not burn, smoke, ect.. In my opinion best all around, plus you dbl the life of the oil. And I always add a quart of LUCAS full syn additive when changing the oil, that stuff is great. I use it in my 2000 Blazer, 2001 BMW X5, 2000 M5, 1997 4 RUNNER.

 

I would say go to synthetic. On my first change in my old Bravada, I noticed a leak which was solved by tightening the oil pan bolts. Never looked back again, synthetic every time.

Not a fan of any of the oil additives for regular use.
