Ok so my mechanic pulled out the check valve and he tells me it's good and working. I did not work on it but is it possible that it looks fine or what do I need to do?

Still has way too much pressure.

 

I would think that a over-pressure high enough to blow out oil filter seals would be due to the pressure relief valve in the oil pump itself. This is what controls the max pressure of the oiling system. The one in the side of the adapter just bypasses the filter setup if it becomes restricted - doesn't control max oil pressure

 

It could be a clog in the oil pressure line returning from the filter bracket. Perhaps it is building too much pressure in the filter causing the seal to blow. IIRC there is also some sort of valve in the oil filter mount that could also be clogged.

 

With all due respect, you could completely clog the oil filter system and pass no oil at all - it shouldn't build more pressure than the oil pressure relief spring in the oil pump itself allows - and this is the pressure that the oil filter seal sees.

Oil filter bypass valves open at about 14psi pressure differential (IIRC) and allow unfiltered oil to go on to the engine oiling passages to prevent immediate damage. They don't control the oil pressure at all - just if the oil bypasses the filter or not. There are three bypass valves controlling flow direction in the 4WD Blazer remote oil filter setup. There is one valve in the oil pump that controls pressure. How all of these valves work together is a bit of a brain twister.

Does this engine have the correct oil filter? Is it a 4WD? Does it have a remote oil cooler. Does it have a remote oil filter adapter. Not sure what bypass valve was pulled out, but a new one should be put back in.
