Just my 2 cents; If you start the truck up and its let say 30 psi, then after 30 min it goes to 0 psi and stays there, then thats the rod bearings. I have had it done to me on GM vech a couple of times...I thought at first the oil pump, got one put it in, did the same thing after about 30 mintues...Finally a real mech told me it was the rod bearings, change them out and the oil psi was just fine. I was lucky I didn't screw up the crank. I had a girl come to me once with her car knocking like crazy, I pull the pan and I swear the crank had 1/4" digs in it, the rod bearings were gone, nada, nothing there anymore. I put some new ones in and told her to drive to it the nearest car lot and trade it in, don't go home or pass go, the nearest car lot and unload it. I already had some history with this car and her neg of it...She just drove it and check nothing...

i had a old 84 k5 blazer that did that for the 2 years i owned it, i always wondered if something screwy was going on or just a bad gauge. never blew up on me though

Thanks dman. I do know that worn bearings can reduce oil pressure, just because there is more free space in the engine, which equates to less resistence to build pressure. Mine usually starts at about 60 when the engine is cold. After the engine has warmed up it reduces to 25-30 at idle (stop lights, etc), and back up to about 50 while driving. I think this is probably within normal parameters.

I did climb under the truck today and looked around and I can see a little oil that looks like something was leaking and the dealership fixed it without cleaning up the previous mess. I say that because I see no signs of a leak or drip where I have been parking the vehicle. I'll keep a close eye on the oil levels to see if I think I'm losing any, but I don't expect a problem here. If I am losing I'm thinking maybe I need to open the oil pan and replace a gasket. I've done that on other cars in the past and feel comfortable doing it, but I dont really expect a problem here.

So far the truck drives great though. I actually love driving this Blazer. Dare I say that it is fun to drive? My previous car was a Crown Vic Police Interceptor, and before that I had a Dodge Intrepid, so it feels good to be in something that sits up a little higher and turns a little tighter on u-turns. I'm loving it.

Default sudden oil pressure drop

dman001948 I would appreciate your comments -99 Jimmy 180K Kilometers - drove it 1300 kilometers over 2 days to relocate it with oil pressure at 270kPa (middle of the gauge) at all speeds, even idle -- at end of trip pressure went to near zero at idle and now does that all the time when warmed up - highway speeds give about 1/3 of the gauge - - master gauge at filter shows zero pressure at warmed idle - - mechanic says must be pump failure - is it possible to change oil pump without pulling engine (4WD)

I never had to do it on my blazer so I can't answer that question. But on my other Gm's at the most I had raise the motor do get the oil pan out. You might have to do the same for the blazer.
