Default Oil Pressure SURGE - What's Wrong??

Hello All,

I did some over due work on the blazer today, and have a new "stumper"...

After changing the oil, I noticed my oil pressure has maxed out with the needle not moving.

It used to be (for 170K miles!) that I had about 20 PSI at idle, around 45 at cruise, and up to 60 to 65 on acceleration.

now when I fire the 4.3 up, the needle goes to about 75 and doesn't drop down at idle.

Any ideas what is wrong?

Just put in new Castrol 5-30 high mileage and a Fram filter.

Any and all input is GREATLY appreciated!

Hey..I know this is silly, but too much oil???
Also I saw a post recently where swartlkk said something about FRAM filters causing pressure problems because of the way they are designed...something about a internal bypass valve inside it or something llike that. I would try a different filter, especially if you had a different brand on there before. Just trying to help.

I thonl something is wrong with the filter. Change it. They're cheap. I would try an AC filter too. You can't go wrong with the stuff it came with.

I checked the oil level prior to change of oil. It was fine, but a tad dirty (5,000 miles)

when I changed the oil, the initial level was a bit high, but I drained some oil (took off the filter and let some drain out). to the max high level as it should be.

The filter I took off was a FRAM, but it was a maxlife vs the replacement filter which is also a FRAM but just a "standard".

Guess I'll try the filter swap and see if that solves the problem.

If it doesn't, any other suggestions? Where is the sending unit located on the 4.3?

Thanks to Each & All for the suggestions!

I changed our the Fram for a AC Delco on suggestion.

Oil pressure still stayed high on start up. Drove around town for 30 minutes and the pressure (according to the guage) has settled back down to normal.

Thanks for the suggestions and help!
