So my battery was close to dead so I took it out and brought inside and went to hook it up to a battery charger, and I accidentally put the negative clip on the positive terminal and vice versa without the charger plugged in. There were some sparks but I got it off quickly. So should I put the battery back in and turn the key to the on position to see if I have power and didn't mess up my battery? Do you think it's still safe to charge? Thanks.

it'll take a hell of a lot more than that to wreck your battery. just put it on charge-the right way-and she'll be good to go, if the battery is in a state to take a charge (regadless of what you just did).
i've never seen a battery charger do that before when it was unplugged.

The spark was most likely just some circuit in the charger that doesnt like being connected backwards so it drew power. If it wasnt plugged in polarity should be fine and the battery should be good. You could always pull out a multimeter before charging it and make sure the voltage is still good.

I doubt you hurt the battery other than it's pride...... The charger though? Heck, when a battery is low enough it sparks even when you hook it it right.

overnight (at least 12 hours), and then let it "stand" for 1/2 hour before checking the voltage, but it should be fine after that.
