Default Over filled trans

97 Blazer 4.3 4*4 LS

Needed to replace the radiator yesterday and evedently didnt get one of the trans cooler lines seated all the way as it popped off on my way to work at 55MPH of course

Got to the side of the road and got it put back in. I was walking distande to the Oasis which didn't have any type of Dexron (of course) the dip showed a LITTLE fluid still in there so I limped about a mile or so to the nearest place that has some. (BP Autran, says Dex III compatable) I put in about 1 1/2 quarts which is overfilled

How terrible is this?

It seems to be running Ok, but something doesn't feel right if MAY be in my head though

not a good idea to overfill the tranny. too much fluid will eventually soak the clutch packs causing your tranny to slip and eventually burn up. take some out even if it is a little low is better than too much.

Never heard of this before, ^^ the clutch packs are always soaked in fluid. Occasionally overfilling will cause foaming of the fluid, but it has to be way over. Adding 1 1/2 qts when fluid is barely on stick doesn't sound overfull but make sure you are checking the level while running in park and after it is warmed up. You can check when cold and it will show a bit low but don't check unless it's running.

IMO running a little low is worse that a little overfilled.

Agree'd^

Stop by a advance auto etc and get a siphon pump and siphon a little out. Or do like my dumbass and loosen a trans cooler line, start it up and it blow fluid into the fan then all over my engine compartment.

Dont worry though,Self called Professionals make mistakes too and i have a clean engine compartment. He he...

UPDATE!!!!!

In the words of RoseAnn Roseannadanna Ohhh....Neveeeeermiiiiiiind !!!!

Seems that I was working on bad information
When I was checking the fluid what I THOUGHT was overfilled was just the runoff down the pipe and not the actual fluid level. I checked it again before I left work and saw it was barley touching the dipstick at all 2 more quarts later its running all better still a touch low, but an oil change at JL or someplace will top that off for me
