Overdrive or Drive?
Gear ratio... OD (4th gear) is a 0.7:1 ratio while D (3rd gear) is a 1:1 ratio. The only reason not to use OD driving down the road is if you find your transmission constantly shifting between 3rd & 4th gears while driving either in mountainous terrain or towing. If it is holding 4th gear fine, there is no reason not to run in OD. D basically blocks out 4th gear.
For offroading, use whatever gear you want.

Yup, another neat yet as I see it almost useless feature of our transmissions is the abilty to start off in 2nd gear for low traction situations. Put the trans in 2nd & you'll start off in 2nd if you're on ice or what have you. Personally I've always just thought less throttle would do the same but I haven't had a chance to test it in real world situations.
Although, if I'm on a slight incline or tires are in a pothole when I'm stopped say during rush hour traffic, I love putting it in 2nd & letting off the gas & it stays put!
