Oxygen Sensors
My check engine light came on a while back. I got the codes ran and the shop told me it was my oxygen sensors. All four. How much should I expect to pay to have these fixed at a shop? I live in Calgary Canada.
O2 sensors are approximately $60 each here in the States. There is no reason to pay a shop to replace them IMO. It is a pretty straight forward DIY. If you do when the pipes are still warm, they will come out easier. There's a special socket that you can buy that has a slot in it for the wires and then a 3/8 drive for a socket that makes the job easier
Replacing mine was one of the hardest jobs I've ever had to do on mine. The heater burned out on it so I decided to replace it. First of all it's very hard to get to, it's on top of the Y pipe right at the cat.converter. I went and paid $18 for a set of oxygen sensor wrenches (never start a job without the right tools) The first thing I did was heat it slightly with my torch, then sprayed it good with PB Blaster and let it sit over night, then I sprayed it again before I attempted to take it out. It wouldn't budge. Anyway I went through this routine for 2 days, spray, heat, groan, scrape knuckles. Rounded off oxygen sensor..Finally I ended up heating it (the pipe, not the sensor) a cherry red with my acetylene torch and taking a small pipe wrench and still had to put everything I had to break it loose. After I got it out I found that none of the PB blaster that I had sprayed on it had gotten to the threads because of the sealing washer on the sensor. And NO anti seize compound. Always put anti seize compound on them when you install new ones.
Hey all i have recently had the same problem and bought a bosch O2 sensor that went after the converter.. i replaced it reset code and drove for like 10 miles and same code has popped again.. Any ideas would be much appreciated im thinking cat is clogged or maybe one in front of the cat is no good?
