Default paper clip in ecu connector?

I bought a 98 blazer 4x4. After getting it home I noticed there were paper clips sticking out of the back of 2 of the ecu connectors. One was pin 10 in the blue connector, and one was pin 7 in the red. I looked up the wires, and they both have to do with the torque converter clutch solenoid. Is there any reason someone would do this? I bought it with front end damage. I started taking it apart to replace the hood, fenders etc. I haven't been able drive it or even start it to check for any codes or anything. I just hope this isn't some kind of band aid fix, though I don't see how it could be. the paper clips don't connect to anything, they're just sticking out. Thanks

That doesn't sound safe at all.

Paperclips are a cheap alternative to proper back-probing tips typically used to diagnose a live connection, but only if the tip that is inserted into the connection has been properly rounded first. The sheared ends on most paperclips have a sharp edge that can damage the seal around the wire that can result in moisture intrusion leading to corrosion. They should never be left installed, however, since they are disrupting the seal as is.
