Default Parking Brake (1st Post)

1999 Blazer, 4.3l, 2 Door.
Parking Brake does not work.

When I set parking brake pedal it stays down to the floor, but does not engage brake. The Brake light stays on occasionally after I pull brake release lever, but will turn off after repeating setting and releasing parking brake pedal and lever.

Any ideas on where I should start on my vehicle to adjust cables/brakes or replacing parts.
I've been looking online to buy parts and ready to replace cables and parking brake shoes or any suggestions you may have.

Thanks!
Mike

Did you adjust the parking brake? Could be the pads are worn too much and you'll need new ones, but if there is enough material on them, you should just have the shoes. There is also a cable length adjuster, but you need to adjust the shoes before you touch that (you may not even need to). Disc brakes, correct?

I Just had to do this to my '03 Blazer. In my case the pads had been so worn/eroded that they fell into the drum and were just resting there. and the hardware with the adjusting bolts were all rusted together too. So I had to buy new pads/hardware for the parking brake. didn't know if the lines were good or not, but I replaced them too. They were a pain in the *** to fit/adjust, but its working like new now.

It's always best to replace the hardware when you change the shoes. The hardware for both sides is only about $23.00. I doubt you need to replace the lines though. It's a pretty basic system.

My parking brake mechanism was not hooked up under the dash look and see if the cable is attached under there, mine was not so i put it back in the the little fork that that grabs the cable and lightly bend the fork just enough to hold the cable end.
This took maybe 2 minutes and has worked for 2 years now.

This explains how to adjust the shoes and the cable:

(the picture on the shoe adjustment link is upside down)

Shoes, hardware and adjusters all like to rust out, along with the backing plates.
