Parking brake adjustment

I searched this as much as I could but seem to be missing something when it comes to readjusting the rear parking brake shoes on my 99 4dr 4wd. I just ordered new shoes after repairing leaky wheel seals, drivers side disc will not go over new shoes. It is 4 wheel disc, and I have found the cable adjustment under the driver side doors. I have done some reading and have found several threads where people say the shoes need to be adjusted first. While I was looking at it today I did notice the "typical looking" ratcheting mechanism for drum brakes under the discs where the horse shoes connect too, but when pulled apart there are no threads on the slotted push pads so turning the toothed side has no affect on how far out the pad sits. Is all the adjustment done via the cable on this specific model, or am I missing something? If I remove the cable from the pull arm the disc slides on perfectly.

There are threads in the adjuster and that's where the initial park brake adjustment is done.
Straight from the GM factory shop manual:
Raise both rear wheels off the ground. Remove the park cables from the levers at each rear wheel. Adjust the star wheels until you hear/feel a very slight drag when turning the rotor in a forward direction by hand. Reinstall the cables to the levers. If removed, reinstall the calipers & wheels. Then, fully release the park brake pedal. Loosen the equalizer nut completely. Tighten the equalizer nut until the rear wheels will not rotate without excessive force in a forward direction.

Just to clarify, what would you call the adjuster? The star wheel?

Sorry, yes, the adjuster is the star wheel. If you remove it and clean it in a wire wheel and put antisieze on the threads, it will turn much more easily. If it's too nasty, autozone sells the entire hardware kit pretty cheap... hold down clips, star wheels etc etc. http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par...r=16528_0_2650_

That picture was worth a million words, but I do believe on mine (can't check right now because I'm not near the vehicle). The threaded part that goes into the star part is already threaded in all the way. Thats why I thought it was one piece, and could not find any threads. Will do the rest of the adjustment per the factory manual, thank you.
