It's certainly not going to help! Either way, I'd replace it. Clean the surface really well and be careful with the torque specs when you install the new one. Sometimes you just get a bad part but sometimes we throw an extra ugga dugga or two on there and it bites us later on.
I found torque spec to be 18 ft lbs or 21 ft lbs. The replacement cheapie egr broke just like the original one did. I just went to the parts store and got a better one. Tightened it and it didn't break.
My new trim numbers are below, first set at idle, second set at 1500rpm. Seems they aren't perfect but much better. Also for fun I am sharing what the broken egr and the mounting surface on engine side looked like, can clearly see a path that doesn't belong there.
Yeah, I'd say the gasket failed at a minimum. Idle trims seem a little high unless it's still warming up but I'd probably take a 'hide and watch' approach to see what it does with the long term values if it seems to be running okay now.
