Default Problem?

Hey Guys,

2003 Blazer...Here is the deal...

When I start the engine after it as beed sitting for a while (overnight), I am hearing a tap coming from the engine. Its loud and noticable for sure. When I give it gas the tapincreasesand I notice the oil gaugealso moves from 30(idle) all the way up to 80 (highest point). As I rev up and down with the tap still there so goes the oli gauge up and down.

Now...this tap will stop on its own in about 3 to 5 minutes while Ilet the engine warm upand then the oil gauge will place itself at 40 and moveonly a little bit when I am driving. In normal driving (after about 5 mins) all is well. The tap/click is gone and the gauge is not jumping.

What do you think is going on?

Thanks!

A lifter?

If it were mine, I wouldpour Seafoam in the crankcase and take a50 mile road trip. I know others that swear by Marvel Mystery Oil.

Hopefully the heads don't have to come off. .02

Just went to start it after 6 hours and it had trouble truning over (slow reponce) but finally did. The tap was back and rough idle. Then it cleared up after 5 mins and tap was also gone. I shut it off and then started it again and it truned right over without a problem.

What could this be?

Thanks in advance.

The worst thing you can do on a cold engine is rev it.

Probably more serious than something seafoam is going to clear up..

Seafoam is a fabulous product and has freed many a sticky lifter. I've been using it in cars, boats and motorcycles for decades. True, it may or may not fix this problem but either way it will work to clean and lubricate the internal parts of the engine. So why not?

I just put 1/2 can in mine even though the engine is working just fine as preventitive maintanence.

Very rough idle now and the engine light is blinking. I think this thing is in trouble.

x2. Reving a cold engine can cause lots of problems.

The oil pressure deal is not something I would worry about, think about it, the oil is not warmed up yet, there is obviously going to be more pressure when it is reved up still cold.

The tapping noise, on the other hand, does not sound all that great. If it is as loud as what you say it is, it may be something serious. Can you tell us where the tapping noise is coming from exactly? Left side? Sound like its coming from the head? etc?
