Default Is pwr steering cooler on low or high pressure?

1998 Blazer LS 4x4.

Pinhole leak in power steering cooler, I can see it through the front grill.

Is the cooler on the high pressure side or the low pressure side?

If it's low pressure, then I should be able to put rubber fuel line piece over it and a small hose clamp - right?

Need to buy some time. Cannot get grill out, screws are very rusted and I'm afraid to break the grill. Also need to buy a new cooler.

I saw a layout diagram.... looks like it's on the return line which i *think* is low pressure. Also the diagram shows regular hose clamps on the end connections of the cooler pipe. Looks like hose clamps. High pressure side cannot work with hose clamps.

It's on the return side. The high-pressure hose goes directly from the pump to the steering box.

Thanks, that's what was thinking too.

Do you agree that some (split) rubber hose with a hose clamp over the pinhole should work since it's low pressure?

Attached diagram.

It should be ok as a temporary fix, as long as the leak isn't caused by the tube being rusted out, which would probably cause it to be crushed when you tighten the clamp.

I replaced mine with a "real" cooler and a return line filter.

awesome. Lot easier without the grill in the way! 😁

Can't seem to get hands in there on mine to put a clamp. Might be bypassing it on the engine compartment side. It cold winter here on long island. Won't need steering cooling til summer.

If I bust the grill, aftermarket one is $70 free shipping.. Another option.
