ZR2 Frame questions
2003 2Dr ZR2 4WD Blazer
So are the 2nd Gen Blazer ZR2 frames all identical? At least the 2000-2005 ones? Living on the coast I've encountered some serious frame rot issues, but only on the very front "crossmember" of the frame - the section the front skid plate screws into, and into which the front of the lower control arms bolt in. Of course it would have to be the one that's welded in instead of bolted. The top half of the crossmember is solid - it had been grease coated originally which has completely protected it. The bottom half had the coating worn away over time and has been severely corroded by salt rot. So it's not in imminent danger of failing but likely will at some point. I've tried mitigating further damage as much as possible by thoroughly cleaning and corrosealing the rotting areas. I'm thinking, however, about possibly picking up a salvage front half frame and seeing if that entire front crossmember section can be cut and replaced. It doesn't look like it would be TOO invasive a project since there doesnt appear to be a huge number of things attached to it. I don't know. Has anyone ever attempted anything like this? I would, of course, get a professional to do it. This would not be a DIY project for me. Any insights or advice? (Forget it is not an option)
