Default Question about no-start condition

Hello Blazer Members Forum,I was driving my '99 Blazer 4.3 yesterday and stopped for about 1 hour to do some things. When I went back out and tried to start it, no start.Would not run. I checked for fuel and the fuel rail sprayed gas out so I amsure it was not the fuel pump.I called a flat bed and had it carried to my house. The next morning it acted like the battery was dead ,but the eye was green or fully charged.I put the battery charger on it and put it on jump start and tried to start it and it started up and ran fine.I am thinking it is the ignition module bad is why it was not starting up and running the day before.Any one ever seen this or maybe happened to their Blazer before? Thanks if any one knows.Hotrod28.

Default RE: Question about no-start condition

Batteries can go bad... I had the battery in my Bravada do the same thing. Cleaned the terminals and put the charger on it and it started right up and continued to do so for a few days. Then all of the sudden it wouldn't start, but everything inside worked correctly (radio, lights, etc) until I tried to start it and it would just die.

Well, I checked the cables only to have the positive terminal in the battery pull right out! Corrosion had set in behind the terminal causing intermittent connection. It would allow enough juice to flow through for the radio and interior lights, but not enough current to spin the starter.

If you've got it running, it may be worth while to take a trip to your local Advanced Auto or Autozone and have them run a battery and charging system diagnostic on it.

But if the battery is close to 5 years old, I'd just replace it!

Hello Swartk,Thanks for the info,The puzzling part is that the battery yesterday when it went down would spin the engine really fast ,but it just would not start then the next day the battery was near dead,Thanks for the answer,Hotrod28.

That's really funny that you mentioned this! I just found out that the previous ****head that owned this vehicle had a problem with the power cable coming apart and so he simply used electrical tape to hold it together.

How do I know this? Because the other night at a busy SONIC drive in, I stopped in, got some food, and when attempted to start the truck again to leave...click...click. No turn-over but all interior lights were on. I had a friend drop by with some cables but that didn't help. Hmmm.. So he's looking at the engine bay while I'm trying to start it and says "HEY! There's sparks coming from your battery positive terminal!"

So I'm like ****...now the car's going to blow up. I go out to the bay and he and I notice eletrical tape at the end of cable just before the crimp. So I literally had to hold the cable and push/hold it on the terminal while he started the truck. Once we got it on...no problem.

Luckily I can go to autozone and just get another cable. Where does the other end (the non battery end) go to? Will I be able to get to it easily without pulling a bunch of crap off?

I believe your '99 has the positive run under the battery to the large masterbuss fuse and then from there to the starter. You should be able to replace just the 1st section of the positive cable, but you will need to remove the battery and the battery tray.

You can put a new terminal on the end of the cable, but it would still require the removal of the cable. It's a much better choice to install a new cable.

Yea I bought one today at Autozone for 8 bucks. They said I needed 40 inches!? Where the heck is that fuse buse I wonder...

I suppose I'll find out tomorrow. I hope the arcing didn't hurt any of the alternator diodes or other electronic equipment.
