Back story:
Blazer’s four wheel drive has never really worked, since I’ve own it. It’s a four button. 1999 LS 4d/4wd.
What would happen: Everything would LOOK fine, then after a few miles the "Service 4WD" light came on, and as long as I didn’t need 4WD I was fine.
Well, I stumbled upon this forum and decided I could tackle the task of getting the 4wd fixed.
Last night, I was tinkering with the 4buttons and put the truck in neutral and pressed 4lo. It started to blink for a few moments, I put it in DRIVE and the four wheel drive engaged in 4lo. Now my problem…
I can’t get it out of 4lo into 2wd..Blazer is disabled.
PLEASE HELP, need to fix it this weekend. Of course, haha.

Pull the ATC fuse for 15-20 seconds and reconnect it then select 2HI. It should go back.
The 'service 4wd' light is like the check engine light; it means that the TCCM has stored codes indicating the area that it has noted a problem. To properly diagnose why this is happening, you need to have the TCCM scanned to pull the codes. With the codes, we can help!

Joe,
Man, I'm guessing you'd have to take it to someone with a tester ( ie mechanic, what not)
But! I have heard of manual ways of checking the codes, but as you can obviously assume--I am not 100% of anyway to check the code.
I'm sure swartlkk could tell you how though
Enough of my useless post. Off to test the fuse trick out.

when you are done with the fuse trick, try the battery trick.
Disconnect both battery cables from the posts. neg then pos. touch the two cable together to ground out any residule charge (give it a few seconds) then hook it back up. pos then neg.
BONUS: while the battery is unhooked, pop the kickk pannel and disconnect your TCCM, cant hurt to clean up the connections there (alcohol and q tip, then finish with a pencil eraser).
Alll of that is really a giant bandaid though as the TCCM will store hard codes and it will simply throw the service 4wd light if it's a real problem. At which point you will get real familliar with the search function real fast.
Good Luck man, keep us posted.

Ok guys. I just got back from lunch. Tried to fuse idea—no go.
I took the fuse out when the car was on. It was in Neutral, tried it in park, drive, etc later.
Tried it with the car in the “START” position ( not cranked) still didn’t work.
The button 4lo ( 4 buttons) remains lit, and I didn’t get any activity from doing the fuse removal or anything.
The ONLY thing that happened was that when I put the fuse back in when the blazer was running the lights would all come back on ( on the buttons) then just the 4lo would stay on, as usual in this stuck status. Although, the slight difference was that each time I put the fuse back in while the blazer was running…the 4WD service light would come on…Until I cut the engine off and cranked it back up---it was gone?
Any ideas now?
Thanks

Also, I tried to quickly mess around with the kick panel covering the TCCM...I quit because I didnt want to break anything...Any tips on getting it off? Main problem is getting it back in driving status in 2HI.
thanks alot guys.

to get the panel off: slide you fingers under/behind it until the pressure hurts. then yank like hell. sounds dumb, but it's just a plastic peg and a few (2-4) pressure clips (dont remember). just make sure your pulling it toward the transmission hum and not up or toward the seat and you will be fine.
as for the fuse thing. yank the fuse then, after 20-30 seconds re-install, THEN try to shift out of 4lo. with the fuse pulled, it wont shift even if it wanted too
tap 2hi approx. 1 million times while it goes through it's start up self check when you first turn the vehicle on too
