After searching these forums I see that I need to fix the wires running under the carpet to get fix the non-functional power seat on our "new" '96 Jimmy. However, to lift up the carpet I need to remove the plastic strip under the door that holds to carpet edge down to the rocker. How is that plastic strip secured? I don't see any screws and don't want to break it. Also, should the seat have power when the key is off (I assume that is the case but since it doesn't work at all I assume that is the case). Thanks.

It has spring clips (4 or so) that hold it down onto the floor. Use a screw driver under the lip to find the spring clip & pry at each one. Due to the age of the plastic, pulling on it may cause it to break.

Yes the power seat should work with the key off
Or tall fat men such as myself wouldn't be able to get in the truck after short much thinner women such as my wife drove it and forgot to put the seat back

another way to pull that trim so that no clips are left in the rig and you have to use this method anyway. right under the trim on the under side of the body you can see the clips coming through the sheet metal. take a pair of pliers and push the clip together and up.

You guys steered me the right way. The clips were right where you said they would be and were easy to remove from underneath by squeezing with a pair of pliers and pushing through the floor. Also, my search of the forum showed that the power seat problem was probably in the wire harness underneath the carpet where the power wire has a one wire to three crimped connection. The single wire was broken and it was easy to solder in a splice and a new connection - everything works now and it didn't cost a thing to repair!

And it's 'acquisition'.. 'for my daughter.'
PS: A 327 in a dump truck!!!!!.. seems like such a waste. Tell me the heads are not the iconic double hump!

Don't know about the double hump heads, I wouldn't recognize them so I guess I need to look in to it. The truck is actually a flat bed grain truck with a dump bed - useful for hauling branches and stuff. Plus the '54 Checy grill and cab look pretty cool. Fixed my sig :-)
