Default Ran out of gas with 1/4 tank left????

Driving to work the other day and my blazer just quit dead. Cranked and cranked and it wouldn't start. So I had it towed to the place where I bought it to have them look it over all he did was add fuel to it and it started. Pissed me off because he ran it enough that when I left I made it about 50 yards and it ran out of gas again, luckily it was across from a convenience store so I walked across the street and paid $9 for a leaky 1 gallon gas can and then $3.65 for the gas. Poured it into the tank half of which went on the ground the can leaked so bad. Started the truck and went in for a fill up. The pump kicked off at 15 gallons and the tank wouldn't take any more, the gauge had said I had a 1/4 tank and apparently it was right. So my question is, is there something loose or replaceable that I can fix when I pull the tank so that it will pickup that last 5 gallons of fuel or do I have to fill up every time it gets below half a tank to be safe?

Sorry it's a 1999 Blazer 4wd. I have checked the fuel pump pressure and it checked out. Is there a fuel pickup hose or a filter on the fuel pickup that could be clogged? My Dakota had a filter in the tank as well as on the frame in the fuel line.

Your best bet is to keep your tank above half to keep your gas pump submerged in gas but your problems might be due to a weak fuel pump.

I had the same problem happen to me and I kept mine above half a tank all the time. That was until the fuel pump died then I just replaced the whole fuel pump system and haven't had a problem since. now when it reaches about quarter of a tank I fill up so I dont get stranded

dad has had that issue with at least 2 of his 4 blazers, started filling up at every 200 miles on the tripmeter rather than trusting the fuel guage. i di think it was rather funny when i had to go rescue him, i would have thought it would have been the other way around. although the 2nd time it happend to him, he was on the way to fill up and was about 5 miles from the gas station.

It sounds like fuel starvation. Could be a bad pump (my guess) or clogged fuel filter or both.

When mine is on E it takes 15 gallons to fill up. Maybe your fuel level sender is sticking in the tank.

When the blazer reads 1/2 tank I have about 1/4 tank left. I never let it get far below there. It's better for the fuel pump to leave more fuel in it anyway.

Same problem, but with a brand new pump (yes, it's an AC/Delco - and a new fuel filter and pressure regulator as well)...it was working fine before installing the new pump. I was wondering if a new pump had to be "calibrated" to the truck. The reason I thought of this was that when I had a new heater vent door actuator installed, there was a calibration step so the BCM could operate it correctly.

I have the same problem with mine ...

The issue is that you probably have a 2 door blazer fuel pump in your 4 door blazer. The 2 doors have a 15 gallon tank which is not as deep as the 18 gallon on the 4 door. The pumps are identical with the exception of the length (due to the different depths of the tanks) so the 2 door will fit into the 4 door tank but it wont pick up the fuel at the bottom because it is too short.
