Not sure if this is the right place for this question or not, but I just replaced the catalytic converter on my 2003 ZR2 4WD with an aftermarket direct fit. Now I'm having to replace the stock muffler and tailpipe, which is all one piece (not clamped). I tried fishing the tailpipe through toward the front but there doesn't seem to be enough clearance. Does the stock muffler and pipe have to be cut out to remove?

 

Jack it up from the rear bumper, it'll go..did one today....jerry

 

A 2003 ZR2? With the muffler and tailpipe welded together? I don't see how. I have it 2 ft off the ground and there just doesn't seem any possible way to fish it through. No matter how I turn it, it always catches on something.

 

My 2 door non zr2 I had to remove the shock.

Nothing special, was a "need my daily driver to pass inspection quick" job. Replaced the cat with an aftermarket stainless direct fit, SoundFX muffler and tailpipe, all from Walker. Definitely not a performance job. Finally finished just 5 mins ago, thx for the shock tip. Sounds pretty good, moderately quiet, and except for the Y section of the new cat not being quite a perfect fit at the top flanges, everything else matched up to the stock parts very closely. For $350 in parts and my own labor, I can't complain. Again, nothing fancy, just something to get by in the short term.

 

Sorry kmenc67..My bad, I thought you were putting the new exhaust pipe on..I didn't realize you hadn't got the old one off. Too late now but I take my Makita sawzall and cut the tailpipe just off the muffler. Lube the rubber hangers where they slide on the 'posts'-use a pry bar to pry them (the rubber hangers) off...
