Unhappy Replace Lower Tranmission Cooler Line

I have a 4x4 electric, 1997, 4.3L, V6 blazer. I need to replace the lower tranmission cooler line. Anyone who has any experiance with a 4x4, please help me? I can see the nut where the cooler line goes next to the transmission, but its a little tight and I can't clearly reach the nut. I think I have to disconnec the tranmission, remove the crossmember and lower the tranmssion a good inche or so. The distributor has room to move backwards as I lower the transmission but what about the two pipes which are in each side running below the doors which make the 4x4 front wheels turn? Will the 4x4 get damaged or do I have to take apart the transfer case before I lower the transmission? Or is there a better way to disconnec the transmission cooling line from the trans.?
