replaced the timing chain on my 96 jimmy
Well the jimmy broke down a few weeks ago and i just got time to work on it and come to find out the timing chain was stretched so bad that when you turn the crank it would move one tooth before the cam would move but didnt jump a tooth. So i replaced the timing set and put the cover back on and made sure it was sealed up good. Hoping to have it running tommorow after the new oil cooler lines come in at the parts store. I put the timing cover on a little different than the book calls for, i removed the lip off the back of the cover just the very back part of the lip so it would go back on and sealed the crap out of it with Right Stuff Rtv and tightened it up. I know that a bunch of you are gonna say its gonna leak but i tried it anyway. Has anyone else tried this. Just curious.
thanks, Dustin

Ive never tried it but would if i was gonna do a chain and wanted to cheat and not loosen the oil pan. If it works great if not you have a bad leak and have to do it over and are only out the cost of 50$ or so for a new chain cover which is recommended anyways.
