Default replacing fuel pump 97 4dr 2 wd

I am replacing the fuel pump on my 97 blazer today. 4dr 2wd. Are there any tips that any of you have for me.

Things to look out for

Things that are missed

What to do - What not to do

Also -Where do you suggest I get the instructions for how to do this?? I can probably wing it, but I'd like to look @ some instructions first, just to be on the safe side.

It's not too hard to change it out...

Have PB Blaster or Release-All handy to spray the rusted nuts on the tank straps.

DO NOT cut the rubber feed/vent lines from the fill hose to the tank, unless you can get a replacement for it (I couldn't find hose big enough for it, and GM wanted $90 for a 4 inch long hose)

Use a Delco/Delphi pump, no aftermarket crap...

Change out the wiring harness to the updated one that should come with the new pump.

Have the tank as empty as possible.

Don't smoke while you're taking the tank off! LOL

I took the fuel filter off and then turned the key, gas flooded out and when I tried to start it, more gas came out. This looks as if the gas pump is working.

When I was tring to start it before, i was putting starter fluid/ gas into it manually and it would run until it burned it off, I could even get the rpm up to 3k and it acted as if it was getting gas and ran longer, but it would die and then not start back up until more gas was added.

Could it be low pressure in gas line? I don't have anything to check this with.

What else could it be?

Presence of fuel does not mean that it is at the proper pressure. You need to test the pressure and leak down rate after the pump shuts off. See the links in my signature for the procedure. Fuel pressure gauges can be purchased and sometimes rented from your local autoparts stores.
