Default Reset system after O2 replacement?

Hello all

I have had the MIL light on in my 2002 Blazer for some time now, (an even just recently fail an emissions test).

So I got one of those plug in to the computer Bluetooth units and with the software it came with, it told me the Bank2 Sensor1 was the source.

So just got done replacing it an the truck does seem to run a little smoother and the exhaust doesn't smell so bad (might be psychosomatic).

Anyway, am just wondering if there is anything else I should do...should I use the software to clear the MIL? Should I also disconnect the battery for about 15Min?

Or should I just let it run an see if the light goes out on its own to confirm I did the right thing and replaced the right sensor?

Thanks for any help.

Clear the code and wait to see if it comes back. If it does come back then the sensor wasn't the problem but only letting you know there is a problem upstream. If it doesn't come back then you should be good to go.

Thanks for the reply AJBert

Btw, do you (or anyone) know much about these sensors in relation to...I took my Fluke meters continuity tester to the leads-in of the old sensor and got nothing across any of the connections.

Didn't think to test the new one, but then too, didn't want to mess with it.

But with nothing across any of the terminals, could that confirm it was bad?

Thanks

Not a clue about the test you did. I'm much, much better at turning a wrench than using a Fluke and knowing what it is telling me unless I've got a book that explains it to me like I'm 4 years old...lol

Just to give a update to this post, my MIL light reset itself this morning all on its own. Did a full cold start yesterday, an then this morning and with in about 3 min the light went off.

In doing some research I read in/via the GM SPO DVD software I have that it should reset itself with 2 full "cold starts" (see link below), an I think that's just about what it did.

In checking via the ELM connection, the fault for the sensor is still there as a recorded fault, but with yesterdays check, I noticed the pending fault was gone an all operations of the sensor seem to be reading properly.

But yet still it shows that is needs to complete three tests before I will be able to pass a emissions test, the catalyst, the Evap an the O2 Response.

For more info on this can read this page: General Motors Driving Cycle

All in all am kinda wondering if I should just do a clearing of the stored code as although its just a stored code, the typical **** in me wants is gone. But I have read that it starts all your tests over again. So try to do the driving part of the cycle test to see if I can clear them, if I can't get them right off might as well do the clear I guess.
