Right directional turns on Wipers

Right directional turns on Wipers
OK, daughter reports that the right turn directional causes the wipers to come on. Just went out and took a look. Sure enough as you lift the stalk for the Right Directional the wiper 'Ring' turns by itself.
Common problem?
Any fix other then replace the entire Multi switch?

i had the same problem in a couple of gm vech including my blazer unfortunatley if you want to keep the intermittent function you will need to change the switch

kinda sounds like a wire came loose on the multi switch or something. I know when my went out it did all sortys of crazy ****.

If the ring is turning with the movement of the stalk I would hazard a guess that some of the wiring in the stalk has become tangled. Now if it can be taken apart and untangled??? I dunno.

its the MFS you would not belive how common this is, and if she had a first gen it would most certinly happen with left or right opperation of the switch, replace the switch and you should be good

Too much crap all designed into one switch.
A few more questions please.
Apparently they made a different switch for Tilt and none tilt wheel. Anyone know the difference? Is this one for Tilt wheel??http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT
Looking at Chiltons '83-'95 book, the disassembly between the different years are huge. From a quick unscrew small cover on column to removing the steering wheel on the later model. What do I have to do to get to the switch on a '99 with tilt wheel?
Hoping just teh few scews I see will open up a Clamshell type cover.

I tilted the wheel up a bit to get my head under there to see what has to be unbolted to get to the switch.
My daughter uses the car later that day only to report the directional is working fine again.
Frustrating.
I see some (E-Bay) Parts places have two switches listed , one for tilt and one for no tilt while others only have one listed. Not sure what the deal is there... 1999 with tilt wheel is what I'm looking to replace. does anyone have an OEM parts guide?

Fixed!
It turns out that a little piece broke off the Windshield Washer part of the Lever and fell into the Wiper Gear part of the switch. Lifting up on the Directional would make this tiny broken piece turn the Wipers On. That's why it was a Solid movement of the wiper switch.
My daughter never told me the Washer wasn't working. Not that I would have imagined a broken piece from that function ( Washer) would drop into the gears of another function Wipers). and a Third function ( lifting the directional Stalk) would set it off.
I changed out the switch. I wrote up a tutorial if anyone needs to do this job. I left the steering wheel and air bag intact.
