Default rod knock sensor ?

hello all,i have a 1997 4.3 i just picked up and did a intake gasket and flush but it messed up a rod bearing i was wondering since the rod knock has occured it now runs like the motor is retarded,is it possible to cut the wire to the knock sensor and it will run better but still have the rod knock.i was told the knock sensor retards your timing .thanx to all for reading and your responses

UH-no First off:the knock sensor will not silence bearing noise! The knock sensor is to control timing under various load situations. You gave no mileage or other info, but I suspect the distributor is off as well... The rod knock was probably already there.

i under stand it wont silence the noise.i asked if cutting the knock sensor wire will put the truck back in time.it has 142000 miles the distributor is in the right timing i know because it ran fine for two days then started knocking worse and then runs like its out of timing, thats why im asking if i cut the knock sensor wire does it put the truck back in timing where it will run better even with the knock!

All I can say is I doubt it. I don't know exactly how a GM one works but I know in a general sense the knock sensor is tuned to a specific frequency. If I remember correctly pre-ignition is around an 8khz vibration. I would think a rod knock is in a lower frequency. If you had a scanner with operating data it'd be interesting to know the timing retard.

When you changed your intake gaskets did you clean up the gasket surface with a flap disc? If yes they are known to leave very small pieces of gritty crap in your engine that can wreck rod bearings in 50 miles or less. If you take your engine apart I`ll bet you have one or more orange looking bearings.

Personally I think you ought tto fix the rod knock first then takle the diveability issue.

There's a lot of info on the V-8 swap out there as well as parts to do it.
