Default rough idle ,no power, stall

1998 blazer zr2 had a no power ,rough idle, stall problem. after $1000.00 in shop costs replacing sensors, new computer, complete tune up,idle control, no difference in idle ,power,or stall problems. ran into an old freind who I aint seen in 20 years whoes husband is now a auto teck head at a local repair shop. called him for ideas and he said over the phone that, that year was bad for the gears on the disributor to wear off and cause timeing and computer problems, and to pull it out and check it. So I did and ile be darned if he wasnt right. got a new one from auto zone 89.00 it now runs perfect . As a new member ,I just thought i might share that with yall in case anyone is have n the same problems. got some other things that i have found out over the time that i have had this vehickle

This same thing can happen to a '95 provided it has the EDI distributor (with horizontal wire terminals). The older HEI style distributor could have this happen to it as well, but it isn't as frequent as the EDI distributors which require a special CMP Retard setting procedure.

There are many other things that can cause this condition. Things like a fuel leak internal to the plenum either caused by a leaking fuel pressure regulator or a leak in one of the internal fuel lines (aka 'nut kit'), clogged poppet nozzles in the CPI spider, clogged EGR valve, faulty or poor quality ignition components (plugs, wires, cap, and/or rotor), faulty/loose electrical connection to the CPI spider injector inside the plenum, etc.

I just got a 2000 Blazer about a week ago and have been driving it regularly with minimal problems. But yesterday I was sitting at a red light on my way home and when I pushed the gas when the light changed it stalled out. Cranked back up fine but stalled again. After the 3rd attempt I got it home and have been driving it today with no problems at first. It tried to stall out again but didn't actually shut off like yesterday. It has the same amount of power as it did when I bought it (a week ago) and it doesn't idle rough... for now. Does anyone think my problems might be the distributor? I really need help with this one cuz I'm stumped!

Default reply to stall

this is a posibility but best way is to just start checking things, and crossing them off a list starting with the basics , plugs ,cap(quality parts!), rotar, wires if has high miles, egr vave, sensors, clean mass flow sensor, replace air filter, frame line fuel filter ,idle control sensor, check fuel pressure, and pull distributor and check to see if the gears on it look worn thin and sharp or thick and meaty on ends of teeth, this will cause timeing problems and if let gone unattended to long, will damage cam gear as well. thats pretty mutch all you can do with out getting into the motor and money for exsploritory surgury.. keep all paper work and receipts and list and if none of these things help it will give a dealer mechanic or pro mecanic a good place to start without wasting a lot of your money on more labor going through the same tests. good luck

well it took me long enough but i pulled ALL the sensors out cleaned them, their plugs, and where they go also. cleaned the egr valve. took the upper intake plenium off and cleaned the intake. i also had an extra distributor with the cam senor and injector from my junk engine that i puled out over a year ago when the oil relocation lines blew on me and pumped all the oil out while i was driving. i tore both apart cleaned and replaced. the gears on the distributor looked about the same as the one i pulled out so my best guess is it was the injector but i couldnt tell you for sure. thank you very much for the help i cant imagine all the headaches money i woulda spent trying to fix this without some of these tips
