My mechanic said you could get some adapter for a Camaro or something, and screw the filter right on to the motor. Elliminating the external system all together. Have you guys heard of this? Would there possibly be a problem elliminating the cooler, or maybe clearance to change the filter?

Are you replacing the lines from filter to cooler? or filter to motor?
If you are replacing the lines from filter to motor than there is enough hard line coming out of the filter.

I'm replacing motor to filter lines. But the actual hydraulic shop said the hard lines coming out of the filter were too close to the bend to put the fittings onto. (I'm gettin some heavy duty $18 bucks a piece fittings) That's the only issue.

Well, I figure they install an oil cooler for a reason...to cool the oil! cuz it does get too hot. I wouldn't do it.

That's what I was thinking too. I'm going with the hydraulic setup you guys talk about here personally. I've already replaced mine with dealer parts once about a year ago, and I see oil.

Can't do that with 4x4 unless you remove the driveshaft. Would make for a cheap easy fix if you didn't want 4x4.

It won't hurt it to remove the oil cooler. Its relocated for clearance reasons. If you think about it, its only a 4.3. All kinds of motors v8 included never came with an oil cooler and had no problems. Sure the cooler helps but I don't think its necessary. just my opinion
