Default sank the truck.. now stalls at an idle!

Well over the weekend i went out muddin in my truck (2002, rear wheel drive) and went thru a mudhole that was a lil deeper than i thought it was. long story short, i got water in my air intake, and deep into the motor... so deep in fact, after towing the truck outta the water, it wouldnt start and barely cranked over. I towed it back to the campsite, and pulled the plugs, and cranked the water over, and got lots and lots of water outta the plug holes. after cleaning the plugs, and putting everything back together, it FINALLY started. i got about 1.5 gallons of water outta the tail pipe. did an oil and filter change, and it was running pretty good. drove it about 20 miles back home, parked it for about 3 hours.

Then the problem started. I tried to start it up, and it would start, but immediately die again. When i gave it gas & tried to start it, it started fine, but as soon as i let it return to idle, it dies.

I can drive it, and at speed it runs just fine, with the exception of the rockers pinging. When i slow for a stop light, i have to shift it into neutral and keep the RPM's above about 700 with the gas pedal otherwise it dies, then when the light turns green, i pop it back into drive, and its fine.

After searching thru the forum here, i cleaned all the sensors and connections, and cleaned the MAF, but im wondering now if the IAC valve might have gone bad from the water/mud?

Any input or advice?

The only codes i got were MAF low voltage, a random misfire in cyl 2, and bank2 sensor1 O2 sensor (been bad for years, i dont care bout that as of right now)

Im going to clean the IAC valve tomorrow, and see if that helps. if not, then im going to replace it.

I'll try and add some pics of the mess too. Don't laugh too hard!

And thanks in advance for any help ya'll can give!

ok... so its not the IAC valve... i cleaned it good.. was all kinds of fouled up... still was dying.. so tomorrow im going to try replacing the MAF since cleaning it did nothing.

For now i turned the idle adjustment to at least get the car idling at 500rpm's and it doesnt die.. just runs like crap.

Anyone have some kind of advice they can offer?

i did notice today that the fuel pressure sensor was loose.. looks like the clip on one side broke, so its only held on by one clip.. and i can shake it almost out of the port it goes into.. could this be causing the rough idle and stalling?

Don't go through puddles..er..swamps if perhaps may contain an ending you may not like. Get a rv,quad or something for such activities if it may affect your daily driving situations. There's probably water in some electrical do-dad(egr/IAC etc) causing crappy running issues..nice pics though.

hmm, that only works untill you sink your toy(in my case buggy) over the roof, go to get around it to tow it out and hydrolock your truck in the mud hole beside it *shrugs* at least the VW motor fired right back up again after it got pulled out

back on topic though, my truck started misfiring on cyl 2 as well when I sucks in all that water and pings/ticks.knocks, whatever it is...

you did pull your air filter to dry/replace it, right? a wet filter will extremely restrict air flow. and it could have got covered in mud.

try running some combustion chamber cleaner through it, such as seafoam, super clean or something similar, could be crud not alowing your valves to seat properly or dirty plugs or such.

I have a K&N air filter.. pulled it.. cleaned it..and let it dry good. Seafoam will be done today. as well as swapping the MAF sensor... hoping that evens things out some.

I will say this.. i am VERY lucky that I knew better than to try and start the truck with water in it... hydra locking my truck would have been a bad day.

Well,I feel that you have found that these units, unless modified are merely incimate weather units! Yes they can be adequate off-roaders if driven prudently, but deep water & mud will only shorten the life of your Blazer and all components unless you have a wallet as deep as the water you are driving through!

If it runs fine everywhere else but idle, I highly doubt your MAF is the source of the problem. I would really concentrate on the IAC valve. It may not be operating at all.

It seems like guys in Florida like to destroy trucks by sinking them, In Colorado driving in the wilderness is much more enjoyable than sucking water into engines

That's because all we have in Florida is mud holes.
