Scary brake problem.....help
I have a 96 4x4, disc front and drum rear. It must have anti lock brakes on the front.
Sometimes when I step on the brakes the right rear locks up. On top of that, at times if I press harder the anti locks kick in and I can not stop at all.
I have notice that if I am on gravel, rain, snow, mud, ( any slippery road) the rear tire locks and the front wont stop it.
I have replaced both rear adjusters and bled the brakes. No help.
I have heard that there is a tech bulletin about the front sensors creating problems also possible to unplug the anti lock brakes. Any suggestions?
My wife needs to use the truck but I am afraid to let her.

Pull the back wheel apart and check the adjuster. Pull it out and make sure it is free. Take it apart, hit it with a wire brush and give the threads a coat of anti-seize. When you reinstall it, put on the drum and adjust it from the back, making sure you can still spin the drum but it has a little resistance.
This should take care of the back wheel. I am no ABS expert so I will let someone else chime in on that.
