Default secondary air pump (emissions)

I have replace the old one with a used one now a month later I think it's going out again. what will happen if it stop working can it hurt my motor?

I am under the impression that it's job is inject air to the converters, if it suddenly work working going down the road will it hurt anything, it going to be a couple more weeks before I can afford to replace it with a new one.

Mine hasn't been working for several months. My mechanic who I trust said the only thing it effects is emissions tests. The only thing I have noticed is the SES light is always on.

mine started grinding about 3 weeks ago and has steadily gotten worst.

if it will hold on for few more weeks i will have the money to change it out with new one but it sounds terrible when its idling and the motor is hot.

if it too much worst I think I can use it for turkey call.

heres a cheaper fix, get some electrical tape, cover the ses light, i used to pay 130 bucks each time my truck needed a secondary air pump, when i lived in a state with emissions, and then i moved...was getting a little riduculous...i do wonder if the 5.3 vortecs have issues with their secondary air systems like us with the 4.3s do...

from what I have read the newer models don't have secondary air pump. I am just so lucky to have one old enough to have one.

too bad they dont make a conversion kit that would eliminate the air pumps that always turn into paperweights...

to bad you can't take them a part and service them some way.

in the old days they run on a belt and we would just take the belt off or the pull that's not right way but, with today's vehicles that's not really a option. with emission inspections and ECM and PCM.

atleast start reconditioning them, so we get some money back for all the year long time frame they seem to last, in mine anyway.
