Default Serpentine Belt

I noticed this morning I have a noisy serpentine belt, is there any danger in using belt dressing or anything else to quiet it?

I've heard that oil based products are not advised, and even one person that's used bar soap by rubbing the inside of the belt with it?

The belt tension is just fine and all bearings are as well. Any tips would be appreciated, thanks.

It's better of just replacing the belt. It's not hard at all and only takes a few minutes to do it.

It's so easy to change the belt of these, I just get a belt and hop to it; takes 3 - 5 mins if you look at therouting diagram [8D]. Plus I have heard bad things about belt dressings.

If you use a belt dressing type product, the noise goes away temporarily while coating the pulleys with crap that's so hard to clean off that it will affect the new belt that you will eventually put on to replace the noisy one.

Best choice is replace the belt. While the belt is off check that the pulleys spin free.

Thanks everyone, a new belt seems the way to go, now if it would stop snowing and get a bit warmer.

Get a Goodyear Gatorback Belt Part # 4060952. Just got one for my ZR2 and it so much quieter now.

I went ahead and used the cheap value belt at Auto zone would this cause my belt to squeak a little when in gear? It's been raining here lately so I don't know if it's water up on the belt as well but I've noticed it as well when it isn't raining?

New belts are quieter, but when it comes to belts, buy GOOD ones. Don't save a buck by going cheap.
