Default service engine light wont come on, but theres codes

so i noticed this with this whole ordeal with my truck needing new cap/ rotor, etc. The light comes on when keys on engine off...but did not light up when there was a code. i never disabled it nor know how...the mechanic noticed it too so im not crazy,

is disabling it even possible? i want it working again

thank you in advanced!

p0340, about to pick up my truck from the mechanic. the culprit was faulty camshaft sensor rotor and cap. but the light hasnt come on in 2 years since i had issues with misfiring and it was spider assembly...

It may show up as P0340pd, which means a pending code. That could mean it only saw the condition for one cycle, but since it wasn't sustained, it didn't set the SES light off. That's why in my Alero, when I had P0401 (egr flow insufficient) it would come up with 2 codes, P0401 and P0401pd.

I don't think all pending codes will set the SES light though.

Complete disabling is possible, but it will set a code 650. I know because I bought my Blazer with that scenario. Moral - always read codes when buying a vehicle, no matter how nice it seems.

Just looked at the screenshot I took of the scannet....upper right hand corner "pending".... So if a code is pending the light won't show at all?
