Default shifting out of park trouble

It is very difficult to get my 97 Blazer 4 door out of park. I push the brake down but the shifter in the center is very hard to get to move. In order to get the button to push in I literally have to hit it with my other hand. Any suggestions would be great if anybody has had a similar problem. I'm going to take the console around it off and try to get an idea but so far I'm stumped

Tahnks, Schimmi

I would start by checking the brake light switch. I think that's the switch that allows the transmission to shift from park.

It is possible that the shift lock actuator has failed or is sticking. The jolt from hitting the button on the floor shifter may be enough to unstick it. You will have to get the console apart to see though.

I figured it out. I took it all apart and saw that there is an actuator that pulls a pin out of the way for the lever to shift out of park. It is impossible to take apart so i gave it a good few shots of wd40 and it seems to be unstuck. Easy fix
