Default Shifting out of Park issue.

2001 Chevy Blazer. About 3 years ago I had to drill out my cylinder lock due to it breaking. Every since then I have to push a little button on my column in order to shift out of park. I have had the column exposed for along time but, am wanting to trade in an fix or disable the issue. If you look at the shifter on the column is it just a little metal nipple that comes out and locks the shifter in park. It is connected to a black cable that goes down into truck. What the heck is it/how do I fix or disable?
