holy crap, $3.43 just fixed my truck. reinstalled the sensor, cleared the codes, went for an extended drive. seems to shift fine. i'll keep a close eye on it over the next few days to make sure the problem is really fixed. thanks again!

Not a problem, glad we could help. One thing though... You did clean both sides of the elements didn't you? LOL

But yeah, the MAF sensor is used by so many systems that it isn't funny.

still shifting fine. in fact, it's shifting better than it has in a while, so i guess the problem wasn't as sudden as i thought. it still lurches a bit for the first several shifts when it's cold (and by cold i mean wisconsin cold), so i'll be doing a fluid and filter change soon. i'd like to install a transmission fluid cooler as well. any suggestions?

one more question: is it likely that i damaged the transmission by driving it while it was slipping? i probably put about 100 miles on it when it was at its worst.

actually, one more thing: would the air filter brand i've been using have anything to do with the sensor getting so dirty? i'm not sure what was being used before i bought the truck, but i've been using the cheap fram air filters (new one every oil change - 3-4k miles).
