Default smoke coming from left AC vent??!

2001 4x4 blazer here
I was driving home today and I noticed smoke coming out of the ac vent to the left of the steering wheel. I stopped the car, popped the hood, no smoke or smell was apparent. So the smoke went away and i started the car, drove for another 1 minute before I got home and the smoke started again. I closed the vent valve and the smoke was still coming out so whatever it is, its origin must be behind the plastic trim cover.

I remember when i was changing my speakers i had to adjust the plastic frame that held the speakers by cutting them with a hot blade and the smell of this smoke was really similar to that plastic.

Has this happened to any of you? Any ideas on what to look for besides taking off the plastic trim?

Thanks

My wife had a 92 Bonneville that the headlight switch got really hot and started smoking. This occurred after a front end collision and repair. I never looked into the how or why. I just said bye bye now to the car...

Is this the same blazer that tried to eat the Hyundai? And didn't you put some after market headlights on too? I'd be real suspicious of that switch for starters... Just my guess...

Strange...
Yes this is the same blazer. I put new black headlights along with the signal lights but the bulbs themselves are 4k bulbs.
And yes its directly above the switch too, just weird that it started doing this after months of having it changed...

I certainly can't promise that's the problem. Just a place to look...

4k bulbs? are they HID?? If they are HID, did they come with the harness and relays that pull power directly from the battery? If not, the extra power consumption is going though the headlight switch.. which was a bad design in the first place.
And putting that extra draw through it is a problem.

I think they are 4k... not sure
anyways the bulbs are the "GE NIGHTHAWK PLATINUM 9006" that you reccomended me buy when I made a thread earlier about what lights to go with.

Even tho it was during the day, the lights were on. Next time I drive ill turn them off to see if theres more smoke/smell..

Those don't draw any extra power than normal bulbs, and neither do HIDs unless you count startup. Could be a shorted wire somewhere, burning electrical smells very distinct, like the burning plastic you mentioned earlier.

I drove it for a couple of days during the day with the lights off, no smoking. I drove it for one night and I noticed that the cluster illumination was gone. Fuse 10 was blown. I checked the lights and there was water accumulation on the drivers side turn signal assembly. It was filled 2/5s with water. I drained the water and repalced the fuse. Im gonna run it for a while see if the problem still occurs.

Cluster lights fuse blew again, I found out that the parking light fuse was blown too. I am thinking of replacing the switch that was fried up partially and see if the fuses will blow again..

Ok so I put in a new switch. I put the fuses back (parking lights and cluster illumination). I also cleaned the water out the side turn assembly and water proofed the side cracks with silicon. Anyways the switch started smoking immdietally so I took out the illumination fuse and it stopped. The parking lights are working fine and the fuse hasnt blown either..

Whats the wiring for the Illuminator on the cluster? Are they grounded where the front lights are grounded? (under the battery)
