Spacers

Spacers
Curious....any thoughts or opinions on wheel spacers. Was thinking I'd like to widen the stance of my O3 LS. Also considering swapping out the stock 15" rims for 16" Z-28 rims. Always likes their style and difference in offset would give it a wider stance. Tho they would be summer rims with BF TA's, of course color matched to the dark blue of the blazer.

I am agnostic on spacers. I had small ones on my rear axle but took them off and forgot to put them on. I had them on only for a bit wider stance at the rear and to make the tracks front and back the same. I am planning on putting them back on next time I have the wheels off. I want them on for when I'm off-pavement. However, spacers can cause extra wear on the bearings as the weight of the truck supported over the wheels is no longer over the bearings if spacers are added. This adds a torque about an axis that runs parallel to the truck, front to back. This will occur if you use spacers with the original wheels.
Now, if you are using spacers with wheels that are wider so that the center of the wheel is over the bearings, then there is no torque.

I ran spacers on the rear of my Blazer for a couple years, until I swapped to a ZR2 axle. I liked the wider stance, and didn't have any problems with it. Be really careful that you torque the lug nuts properly, and I'd recommend you use permanent locktite on the threads to prevent the lugs from loosening.
