Default Spare Key help

I bought a 2000 Blazer 4 doorr 4x4 LT but it has no spare key or key fob
If i go to the local walmart and get a key cut, will it work to start my motor, or do i need to go to GM to buy a key.
Any help would be appreciated.

Just make sure it works in your doors and ignition right away. I bought a key once, and just gave it to my wife to put on her key chain. Well wouldn't you know it I locked myself out within a week. So, I called her up to bring me the extra. She showed up and gave me the key I stuck it in my door and it wouldn't turn. The guy at the hardware store did a bad job cutting it. SO I pulled open the top part of the door unscrewed my antenna and pushed it through to hit my power locks. SO, just make sure the key is a good cut before you have to rely on it and get stranded if it is indeed a poorly cut key.
