Ok, I've got a 1997 Blazer...today I ran over a bolt in the road & my tire is a goner...my spare is located under the back rear of the Blazer. My husband got the initial piece that holds it on off, but the tire still won't come off. Any ideas what the problem is?

My 2001 has a crank downwinch that you access thru the rear bumper. Use the jack handle to lower the tire down. It's mounted on the cable with a spring loaded "tee" to hold it up underneath.

If you mean you 'got tire lowered onto the ground' but still can't get it off..you have to kind of lift that oval piece (holds the tire tight to the vechile)and lift it slightly upwards,so the oval sectioncan be narrowed.

Correction: He did NOT get the piece off that's holding it on...I only thought he did. He said that it just kept turning and turning....

What part keeps turning&turning?Do you mean:little fitting where the jack end fits into(on outside of lowerbumper)?
Has he tried putting weight & pulling down on tire>then tried to unwind it some.

It is possible that the spare tire is "frozen" up under the vehicle. My wife's van had a flat, I got there to change it and could not get the spare to drop out of the vehicle (the cable and carrier were laid out under the van on the road). I ended up sliding a 2x4 between the spare and the underside of the van and popped it loose. What a PITA!

Possible that a part of the cable thatunravels isfroze/rusted/stuck, and has knotted itself from trying to lower it from the removal attempt,& now binded?

Yeah I did the same thing when I first tried to take off the spare... the spare is NOT removed by spinning the metal bar that's in the center hole on the spare tire. You uneed to stick the flat end of the tire iron in the little round hole next to the license plate, and turn counter-clockwise. The tire will slowly lower to the ground unless, like someone said earlier, the cable is binding inside the tube that holds it.
Being new to blazers, I should have read the manual... my spare tirelowering cable came unravelled by trying to remove the spare by attempting to turn the metal bar inside the center of the spare tire, thinking it was like my other car!
