Default spark plug on initial start-up after break-in?

My actual question is in the next paragraph if you just want to skip to it. ok, so after replacing the heatercore, and head gasket, and intake manifold gasket (all were bad) I'm finishing putting everything back together in more or less it's right place. Doing all 3 of these at the same time took a few weeks, and I certainly don't want to mess up anything on starting the vehicle up when it hasn't had oil in it for that long. My fsm didn't seem to have a procedure for this, but those other guys (Chilton's / Haynes) do have a procedure detailing a start up procedure after an overhaul. This wasn't an overhaul, just took a while.
So one of the things that Chilton's says to do as part of the whole process is to crank then engine with the pcm/batt fuse pulled and "THE SPARK PLUGS OUT OF THE ENGINE". The plugs are a pita to install, and yes, they're in already. So can I just follow along and not hook up the plug wires, or does having the plugs in the block but disconnected still screw up the process? I don't think it will, but then again there's a lot of things I think will happen....like the vehicle actually starting at all!!
Thanks!!

The engine won't spin over as freely, but it won't mess anything up. Regardless, I doubt you would do any damage to things without the process.
