Try this first - It's in my 04 Owners Manual. I'm not positive it'll work on a 00 but it's worth a try.

With the transmission in neutral, press the 2hi button.
When it flashes, immediately shift the transmission into Park.

This is a TCCM over-ride command, resetting it to the 2hi position.
Again, it's for my 04 and I'm not positive it'll work for you.

If that doesn't work, remove the TCSM (encoder motor).
Use a crescent wrench and manually shift the lever on the transfer case clockwise. It'll only move a little bit and you should hear 2 "clicks". Now you're in 2 high.
It goes 4lo - 4hi - 2hi. You should be able to spin the front output shaft now to verify that you're in 2hi. If it doesn't spin, you're still in 4wd. Try moving the lever again.

Be sure to have the transmission in neutral before shifting the transfer case out of 4lo.

I hope this helps.
