Your brake pads are worn down to the point where the wear indicator is hitting the rotor. Time for a brake job.

it does it when there is no pressure being applied and the brakes were checked and they said they were good.

Which truck in your signature is this on? Do you have rear disk brakes on the '97 (didn't really come that way until '98, but thought I'd ask)? If so, it could be one of the rear pad shims contacting the rotor.

Who has done the inspections?

i believed the rear brakes are drums. i know there different ones then they have on the front.

My moms boyfriend took the truck to get inspected. he also looked at all the brakes and they were ok. the brakes don't squeal at all when you step on the brakes, when i release it then they go back squeaking.

well had the same problem. on my 95 Blazer 4wed 4door. just go to Auto Zone get the brake pads that cost around $20. take ur wheel off and use 3/8 caliper bit socket and take off ur 2 bolts on the caliper and replace them and ur problem is fixed

also my blazer passed inspection in pa. but it needed new spider injectors (gas smell), cat( rattled when hit gas), brakes changed cracked.
