Default Stalls when put into drive

I have a 97 4.3 ltr. I was away for a few months, blazer was not driven. Now it will start up ok, it idles fine. However when it is put in drive, it stalls. Any ideas?

The fuel line seems to have pressure, but I guess I can't be sure if the pressure is correct since I have nothing to test it with.

Yep, I would check the pressure using this post: 96+ Fuel System Diagnosis and make sure the idle air control (IAC) is clean.

if you give it some gas while you put it in gear does it try to lurch forward ?....if so your torque converter may be locked up .....

just an idea ...i had a 81 suburban that did that after sitting for a few months . it could also be the tcc solenoid .

hope you get it figured out ....unlike my 96 nightmare .

I had the fuel line pressure tested, and just as I was advised in the first replay, it was low ans i will need to replace th fuel pum[ -AGAIN

You will see a post I started about a year ago when pump was completely out. I bought a used one and now it is going to be replaced again,

Anyone have a pump that I might be able to purchase.

Alos will a 99 work in my 97. thanks for any help.

According to the parts books that I have handy they are different part numbers between the 2WD and the 4WD models. Just as they are different between the 2 door and 4 door models.

From what I can tell from a quick look through the part numbers the 97 and 98 2WD 4 doors are the same. The 99 is not the same as your 97 (as far as part numbers go)
Any decent junkyard should be able to look up what will work on your truck from what vehicle though.

Before you run off to get that new pump though make sure that you check to be sure that you are getting 12v at the pump. If it is under 12v then you may have a different problem such as a bad fuel pump relay or trouble with a ground somewhere. I have seen a lot of fuel pumps in these trucks get replaced when the problem really ends up not being the pump but an electrical problem instead.

It is worth taking the 5 min it takes to check this before you buy the new part.
