Default Starter problems?

The starter died on my 99 blazer LS, i changed it out. works great, but now it throws a check engine light. I just bought the truck 2 weeks ago, and am getting moderately pissed off now. I see by researching that these vehicles seem to like throwing the check engine light on. How can i check to see what code it is? do i need a special scanner? How finicky are these engines with the light? Thanx for any replies.

It's not that they 'like throwing a check engine light'. The light comes on when a problem is detected by a sensor, just like the system is designed to do. You can take your truck to AutoZone, Advance Auto, etc and they will scan the OBD system for free to see what the code is that it has stored. Let us know what you find and we'll see if we can help.
