Hi
My 2005 blazer truck has an issue where by when I drive straight and I go to turn left I feel the truck respond immediately.
When I go to turn right the truck doesn't respond until I move steering wheel more than I have to compared to when turning wheel LEFT. Pain in the *** on the highway.
When changing the spark plugs I had to lift up the steering shaft.
I noticed the "PLAY" in that part that connects to the shaft. (steering gear input shaft?????????)
I then manually tried to turn the input shaft by hand and I could immediately feel the slop going to the right.
What is the component called?
Is it defective then?
What is the value of these parts new, (assume it needs replacing or repairing)
Thanks for your help everyone.

If you lift shaft completely up. put it to the side.
Then reach down and turn the stubby thing that the whole shaft connects to and it is the "part" that I'm talking about. I believe the "rag joint" is the thing that connects to "it" and the screw goes down rag joint to hold it to the "stubby" thing?
Gosh no idea...on part's name. Hope this helps? I'm a newbie.

yep,rag joint. its a piece of leather that runs between the shaft and box. helps with vibrations. over time it wears out. they are about 10 bucks, and comes as a kit with bolts etc. you can do it if you have some sockets and a crow bar and patience. but honestly id take it to a shop and have it done. even for someone whos experienced you cuss at it and want to pay someone else to do it. hit up autozone, advance, etc. they have it.

This might help you out.
Has Anyone Changed There Rag Joint - S-10 Forum
There is also a way to cut one from a junk jeep if you feel ambitious.
It would basically give you the flaming river u joint mod.
Like chris015 said the part is cheap, just depends on what your frustration level is and if you have had a tetanus shot in the last five years.

Hi guys, just reviewing the post here. I don't think I explained myself right. The unit itself #2 has the stub part sticking out of it(#1). That unit is what needs replacing.
What is the name of that unit? I can turn the metal stub thing using my fingers and you can feel the slop when turning to the right.
I believe the RAG joint is the item that ATTACHES ITSELF to the unit that has the stubby thing sticking out of it (#1).
Sorry for confusion. Am I right in my thinking now?
Any one know how to fix the big UNIT?
