Strip on Windshield is torn, sticky on door
I have had an issue on my 1998 Jimmy which has been long time coming. On the driver side mainly, although I am starting to see it in the passenger door now too, it was getting sticky. Now, today it has torn the weather seal which appears to be attached to the windshield. I could never figure out where this tary sticky stuff was coming from. I wonder if the thin strip on the door is just deteriorating and doing this?
This first pic is the door. The dark portion is tary and sticky.
the second pic is the seal on the window. its torn.

anyways,
how do I replace or fix the thin piece on the door itself, and what is it called? That piece is ok but is really sticky for some reason. I'm leary to tear it off because not sure if it has something to do with sealing the door properly?
can an auto glass place replace the rubber strip that connects into the windshield?
Thanks.
